Rubber City Roller Girls

Rubber City Roller Girls
One Saturday Each Month
John S. Knight Center
77 E. Mill Street

Akron’s leading ladies of the flat track are starting their 2010 season on March 13 and will compete one Saturday a month through September at the John S. Knight Center. Over the next few months the RCRGs will go up against rivals including the Black-N-Bluegrass Rollergirls, Killamazoo Derby Darlins and the Glass City Rollers.

Don’t confuse this with your Grandma’s roller derby of the 1970s. This is a sport that takes dedication, practice and focus, it’s not a wrestling match. The league gives adult women of all ages and walks of life the chance to engage in a physical, skill-based competition and help their community at the same time. The league raises money for causes that affect women and children in the Akron as well as hosts special skating events. Not only that, but the Rollergirls have really fun names like Lita Maround, MC HamHer, Megabeth, and Sissy Slammer. Check out their profiles on the Web site.

Tickets are $9 advance/$13 at the door for adults and $5 Advance/$6 for kids 12 and under. Check out their Web site for specific dates, times and other info.
